Paula, I got a lot from the practice this morning. Waking the shoulders and hips in a gentle way, or more if that's what the body needs/wants, was great as I enjoy shoulder and hips openers...it releases what doesn't belong and I notice my demeanor change almost instantly once I "let go"...the mind calms and I am ready to start my day. What I love most are the times to set our Sankalpa. I've done this with my students at the university where I've been teaching yoga for two years. This is something I believe helps the students to zero in on themselves, navigating college life, schedules, work-study, families, etc. They are patient and still during this time...it's great to see. College students will be college students lol, but this is a great moment for them. I also sub for classes at a local senior center where they've never heard of Sankalpa, so they really enjoy it as it adds to their experience. Take care, and thank you again.

I'm truly so pleased to hear this Sheryl, how wonderful to share this with your students. Setting an intention really is such a lovely practice to engage in and have a moment to reflect and deepen into where our energy is going ❤️

Thank you very much for this beautiful practice, it's such a joy and a pleasure when I notice you have uploaded a new class! Just one question, if I may. I've got problems with seal. I love the pose but every time I am in it I've got to back off and switch to sphinx because seal is really painful for my lower back. Any suggestion for improving my posture which is possibly not correct and prevents me for improving in this pose? Thank you in advance 🙏🏻

Hi Annalisa, thank you for your lovely presence and feedback here. This has been a common question so I intend to do a little tutorial videos sometime soon. It's a strong back extension so totally fine to work into sphinx instead, however if you want to try a couple of things: 1. Move hands further away from you (to decrease the extension in the spine) 2. Engage the glutes, imagine trying to lift your two frontal hip bones (trying to lengthen the lower back). We want to try and distribute the extension throughout the entire spine, rather than overload the lower back (the lumbar spine) 3. Use a bolster by placing it underneath the ribs for extra support (in restorative/yin practices we stay in the posture longer, so may not be suitable for this specific practice) I hope some of these tips help xox p
